Ojibway native artist Gelineau Fisher (1951 -2015) completed this in one of his last painting periods before he passed on to the Spirit World in August 2015. It measures 20" X 16" and is an acrylic on canvas. On the back side written in pencil is the title "the three Spirit - Mind Body + Spirit" with the explanation noted thereafter "the Eagle our Wisdom. The two Sun + Moon Earth Tunes". It is initialed and dated under that.
The image of the Eagle with the three bears inside symbolize its message. Each bear represents one of the three noted spirits within each of us. The Eagle symbolizes the power within all to be in touch and guide us in the material world with use of our spiritual world. Each bear shows 7 red dots along a life line that diverts into 2 sections - the good and the bad paths, with a blue dot at its fork representing the choice point at each decision we make, within each of the three spirits as we go through life. The 7 red dots represent the Ojibwe seven grandfather teachings which have been passed on from generation to generation orally through stories and ceremonies.The 7 Teachings are Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility and Truth. The Sun and the Moon (light and darkness) represent Earth Tunes, or how we proceed in life.
