Ahmoo Angeconeb

This is a rare acrylic in heavy fine art paper original painting completed by Ahmoo in 2006. Ahmoo's work was primarily in the form of original prints as his favourite medium, having been trained and mastering the printmaking form. His original artwork was most often accomplished using coloured pencils  on paper (primarily black paper), once we had an original acrylic painting onto pine wood. So this offering is indeed a valuable and rare form for the astute Angeconeb collector.

The stag was a powerful and very important animal in many pre-Christian European cultures.  The stag is depicted in many of the cave paintings found in France and other parts of Europe.

In 1990, two German artists (represented by the 2 stags) invited this Anishnawbe artist, Ahmoo Angeconeb (the Caribou), to visit Germany, exhibity his artwork, and talk about its creation.

The two stags were very interested in the spiritual teachings behind Anishnawbe artwork.

Ahmoo related to me one day in my gallery that the inspriration for this artwork came to him while in France.  He was attending and lecturing at an indigenous conference and on the day of the break, the organizer of the conference took Ahmoo and another aboriginal artist from Austrailia to see the cave paintings around the French Pyrennes in the south of France.

While there both he and the Australian indigenous were amazed to find that these same symbols in the cave paintings are found in century old rock paintings in each of their distant homelands.  Ahmoo was further astonished when told that these French paintings had been carbon dated to prove their existance were in the thousands of years old - pre-dating the known history of migration across the oceans had further reinforced his belief and his cultures teachings.

This is the last known original print known to be available.  Many consider this to be one of his finest work.
