Elisabeth Hopkins Bio:

Elisabeth Hopkins was born in England into a family with a long history of artists, sculptors, writers, poets, and musicians, and was exposed to all of these influences from a young age. She later attended art school in London, graduating with an art teacher's diploma.

By profession as an occupational therapist, Elisabeth continued to paint, and since coming to Canada in 1951, she has taken advanced art courses at both McMaster and Lakehead Universities, as well as many workshops and self-directed study.

Experimentation with new techniques and approaches led to a Canada Council award under their Explorations program.  Elisabeth created several unique slide shows and videos using stained glass paints and found objects.

Elisabeth found her artistic inspiration in reading, music, extensive world travel, and especially in the natural environment with its many patterns and moods.

She has been a long time member of the Thunder Bay Watercolour Society, Lakehead Visual Arts, and the Northern Images Art Club.  Her paintings are in private collections world-wide, including Canada, United States, England, Australia, New Zealand and Holland.

Now quite elderly, she is widely viewed as one of the elder states-person of the local art scene along with Ruth Tye-McKenzie, and is highly regarded by local artists, many whom she has taught and assisted over the years. As well, she is a marvellous and respected, wonderful person.

    • Hi and thanks for finding us on our outdated and neglected website! We plan on updating it shortly, as soon as the weather turns to winter like conditions. Yes, Elisabeth Hopkins’ “Freeze Up” is available, we have it listed on our Etsy store at $250. I just took a few photos of it, it is in the original condition as stretched by her on thin wood strips. If interested, we can offer it to you directly through the website via credit card or Interac transaction at $225, plus $20 shipping if outside of Thunder Bay, saving you the equivalent expense that we would pay for commission through our Etsy store. Her work, in our humble opinion, is undervalued due to her limited promotion due to her advanced age, despite her art pedigree and talent. I don’t know of anyone having her work currently promoted other than a few pieces by us, something I’ve been meaning to discuss with her. And I certainly will pass on your message, I’ve been meaning to reconnect with Elisabeth for some time now, and this will spur me on.
Thanks again, and please contact me directly at steve@northofsuperiorart.com. My Etsy store is here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/NorthOfSuperiorArt.
      Thanks again,
      Steve.
